Identities?

In the following section, we discuss some theoretical concepts from an inter-American perspective that help us understand a deeper sense of the complexity and variety of Aruban society.
On the one hand, we problematize one of the most important concepts in social sciences and area studies, which is the concept of culture. The objective of this is to deconstruct the stereotypical idea of culture and show the high complexity of it.
And second, we want to discuss and make a new reading of the concept of identity, because, as we can see in the project there is not one homogenous identity, actually what we can see are the diverse senses of belonging that Arubans have, which change depending on the context.

Hello Visitors,

We are pleased to present to you a group project from the Inter-American Studies Master program at Bielefeld University in Germany. We hope that you become just as interested in Papiamento and all of the fascinating variables that produce such a hybrid community, as we are. We would also like to  thank all of the people who supported us through this project such as  Prof. Dr. Joachim Michael, Atahualpa Garcia, Alina Muñoz, and Cornelius Engelbrecht.

                                       Sincerely,

                                       Angela, Edith, Frescia, Johanna.
